How Often to Change Bedsheets
Sleep experts recommend changing your bedsheets every one to two weeks and more often if your pets sleep in your bed or you sweat in your sleep. Once a week may seem over-the-top, but after a few days, your bedsheets can accumulate things you can’t see and don’t exactly want in your bedding, like sweat, dirt, dead skin cells, body oil, and even dust mites. After a while, this buildup can cause skin irritation, rashes, and worsened allergies.
To keep your bedsheets fresh between washes, air out your bedding or spritz it with fabric softener (watered down in a spray bottle). Investing in high-quality sheets that are crisp, cool, and breathable can also extend their freshness.
How Often to Change Pillowcases
Like bedsheets, pillowcases should be changed at least once weekly, with some experts saying every few days. Dust, makeup, and oil from your skin can quickly collect on your pillowcases and rub into your face all night while you sleep. Regularly switching out your pillowcases can help keep your pores unclogged and your skin free of irritations.
When picking pillowcases for your home, choose soft and smooth materials that are gentle on your skin, like long-staple cotton or buttery silk. Bamboo is also great for pillowcases as it’s hypoallergenic, soothing, and non-irritating.
